India

During Christmas and New Year’s 2020 break, we had the opportunity of traveling to India. This magnificent country had intrigued me for many years; over time I had studied, worked and met people from India and always had enjoyed their friendliness thus leading me to investigate their country, cultures, traditions and as well about their long history.

People

For me, one important factor about wanting to travel to a specific country begins by meeting their people living and traveling abroad. I had met many Indian people in the United States and also had the chance to talk to a good number of them while on my travels to other countries. Some travelers are more inclined to travel to a specific destination based on other factors, but in my opinion, if we fail to at least investigate a little bit about (and hopefully meet some of) the native people we will encounter once we get there, we may just end up disenchanted while traveling there; at least this should be the case if you are planning to mingle with them while you visit their country. The people of India I had met prior to traveling there had for the most part been very nice to me and I think the main reason for that was because they perhaps had noticed I had a genuine interest in learning about their country and their culture. It is true that you can always encounter difficult people in your travels, but this is the case in any country in the world. For the most part, we were treated very well by the people in India.

The culture

The culture of India is very old, complex and at the same time, if you enjoy diversity, it can also be said that it is fascinating. With thousands of years of history, hundredths of dialects, and even among its people a caste society, this huge country can be a shocking place for many who are not mentally well prepared. I think India is one of the few places I have visited thus far that tested my senses to its limits and I am able to say that it was a challenge well worth it. During our trip, we had the chance about Hindu beliefs while visiting the city of Varanasi; this experience alone had opened our eyes in a way that no other country had even done so. It is without a doubt why we believe that traveling is the best education a person can receive.

Places to visit

One of the main reasons for traveling to India was to see places of interest that had called our interest for a long time. Places such as the Taj Mahal in the city of Agra, the Blue City in Jodhpur, the Ganges River in Varanasi, a walk in the slums of New Delhi or a conversation with a few acid victims and survivors are just a few of the experiences we were able to walk away while visiting this beautiful country. On this opportunity, we could only visit four cities and we wished we had more time to continue on, but we will plan for a future longer visit.

Travel tip

The most important tip that we could perhaps give to anyone while traveling to any country in the world including India is to always go to your destination with low expectations no matter what you read on reviews or what others may tell you in person. If you follow this simple tip, you will never be disappointed and it will also give you the opportunity to be more open-minded about any place you visit. It is indeed better to be surprised each time by whatever your destination has to offer than expect your experience to be identical to other travelers. Durante las vacaciones de Navidad y Año Nuevo 2020, tuvimos la oportunidad de viajar a la India. Este magnífico país me había intrigado durante muchos años; Con el tiempo estudié, trabajé y conocí a personas de la India y siempre disfruté de su amistad, lo que me llevó a investigar su país, sus culturas, sus tradiciones y también sobre su larga historia.

Su gente

Para mí, un factor importante acerca de querer viajar a un país específico comienza por conocer a su gente que vive y viaja al extranjero. Conocí a muchas personas de la india en los Estados Unidos y también tuve la oportunidad de hablar con un buen número de ellas durante mis viajes a otros países. Algunos viajeros están más inclinados por a viajar a un destino específico en función de otros factores, pero en mi opinión, si no investigamos un poco (y llegamos a conocer a algunas de) las personas nativas que encontraremos una vez que lleguemos allí, podemos terminar desencantados cuando lleguemos a nuestro destino; al menos este debería ser el caso si planeas mezclarte con ellos mientras visitas su país. La gente de la India que conocí antes de viajar allí había sido en su mayor parte muy amable conmigo y creo que la razón principal de esto fue porque tal vez se dieron cuenta de que tenía un interés genuino en aprender sobre su país y su cultura. Es cierto que siempre puede encontrar personas difíciles en sus viajes, pero este es el caso en cualquier país del mundo. En su mayor parte, la gente en India nos trató muy bien.

Su cultura

La cultura de la India es muy antigua, compleja y, al mismo tiempo, si disfrutas de la diversidad, también se puede decir que es un país fascinante. Con miles de años de historia, centésimas de dialectos e incluso entre su gente una sociedad de castas, este enorme país puede ser un lugar impactante para muchos visitantes que no están mentalmente bien preparados. Creo que la india es uno de los pocos lugares que he visitado hasta ahora que puso a prueba mis sentidos hasta el límite y puedo decir que fue un desafío que valió la pena. Durante nuestro viaje, tuvimos la oportunidad de aprender directamente en cuanto a las creencias hindúes mientras visitábamos la ciudad de Varanasi; Esta experiencia nos había abierto los ojos de una manera que ningún otro país lo había hecho. Por este motivo, creemos que viajar es la mejor educación que una persona puede recibir.

Lugares para visitar

Una de las principales razones para viajar a la India fue ver lugares de interés que llamaron nuestro interés durante mucho tiempo. Lugares como el Taj Mahal en la ciudad de Agra, la Ciudad Azul en Jodhpur, el río Ganges en Varanasi, un paseo por los barrios bajos de Nueva Delhi o una conversación con algunas víctimas y sobrevivientes de ataques con acido son solo algunas de nuestras experiencias. En esta oportunidad, solo pudimos visitar cuatro ciudades de ese inmenso país y deseábamos tener más tiempo para continuar, pero planearemos una futura visita más larga.

Un consejo para los viajeros

Uno de los consejos más importante que quizás podríamos dar a cualquiera mientras viaja a cualquier país del mundo, incluyendo a la India, es ir siempre a su destino con bajas expectativas, sin importar lo que lea en los comentarios o lo que otros puedan decirle en persona. Si sigue este simple consejo, nunca se sentirá decepcionado y también le dará la oportunidad de tener una mentalidad más abierta sobre cualquier lugar que visite. De hecho, es mejor sorprenderse cada vez por lo que su destino tenga para ofrecerle que esperar que su experiencia sea idéntica a la de otros viajeros.
