On our trip to India, we had many choices of places to visit, but one place had to be the Taj Mahal in the city of Agra, about 4 hours by car from New Delhi.
Prior to our visit to the Taj Mahal, we learned a bit about its history, and it was very much worth it. The ivory-white marble mausoleum was commissioned in the year 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan who had reigned from 1628 to 1658. The Taj Mahal as many people think it is not a temple, but a tomb constructed for the favorite wife of the Shah and later also became his own tomb.
Being completed in the year 1643, but work continued for another 10 years. Based on currency conversion in the year 2015, the Taj Mahal cost was estimated at 52.8 billion rupees or about $ 827 million dollars.
The construction of the Taj Mahal hired about 20,000 artisans under the guidance of a board of architects led by Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, the court architect to the emperor. The Taj Mahal was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 for being “the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage”.
When we entered the compound, we could not see right away the Taj Mahal, as it is somewhat hidden from the main entrance and the early fog made the visibility even more difficult. When we entered and walked to the main plaza, its shape was unmistakable. In excitement, we enjoyed every step as we walked nearer to see this magnificent structure. The Taj Mahal attracts between 7 to 8 million visitors each year. Here are some of the pictures we took of this unforgettable experience.

En nuestro viaje a la India, tuvimos muchas opciones de lugares para visitar, pero un lugar sin duda tenía que ser el Taj Mahal en la ciudad de Agra, a unas 4 horas en coche de Nueva Delhi.
Antes de nuestra visita al Taj Mahal, habíamos aprendido un poco sobre su historia, y valió mucho la pena. El mausoleo de mármol blanco marfil fue encargado en el año 1632 por el emperador mogol Shah Jahan, que reinó de 1628 a 1658. El Taj Mahal, como mucha gente piensa, no es un templo, sino una tumba construida para la esposa favorita de Shah y que más tarde también se convirtió en su propia tumba.
La construcción del Taj Mahal completó en el año 1643, pero se cree que el trabajo continuó por otros 10 años mas. Basado en la conversión de divisas en el año 2015, el costo total del Taj Mahal se estimó en 52.8 mil millones de rupias o alrededor de $ 827 millones de dólares.

Cuando entramos al complejo, no pudimos ver la estructura, ya que está algo oculta de la entrada principal y la niebla temprana hizo que la visibilidad fuera aún más difícil. Una vez que habíamos entrado y estábamos parados en la plaza principal, su magnífica forma a la distancia era inconfundible. Disfrutamos cada paso mientras nos acercábamos para ver esta magnífica estructura. Se estima que el Taj Mahal atrae entre 7 y 8 millones de visitantes cada año.
