Over the past four years, I have had the pleasure to visit the little country of Singapore at least one time per year and even though I say “little” don’t let this fool you because this country should be judged by everything except for its size.
If you have never been to Singapore, I must warn you that once you arrive at its International Airport (Changi International) you may be as impressed as I was for its size, amenities offered and if you are curious enough, the newly built (2019) Jewel Nature-themed entertainment and retail complex, which links to three terminals and features its masterpiece, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, the Rain Vortex, which is surrounded by a terraced forest setting.
Once you leave the airport, if you have been to other southeast Asian countries you will notice how clean and organized Singapore is compared to them. When I first arrived in Singapore in 2017, I was impressed by almost everything my eyes were seeing while in the car to where we would stay. After leaving our bags, the next thing was to look for food. I am one of those people that can eat almost anything and very seldom my stomach would give me any problems, but I wasn’t worried about this issue in Singapore and sure enough, you shouldn’t either.
Singapore has been recognized for a top destination to visit in Asia for many years now, and although it is not as cheap as other Asian countries, it is definitely worth visiting at least for a few days and perhaps the place you should splurge and pamper yourself a little. Being an experienced traveler since the age of 8, I have learned to appreciate and immerse myself as soon as possible in the local cultures, therefore in Singapore going to eat to the local spots called Hawker Centers was the right place to experience its culture.
My experience in the first hawker center was nothing short of incredible. The variety of food served at these establishments was all delicious. At these open-air eating areas, you will find Indian, Malaysian, Chinese and a huge variety of food that its sure to please anyone, even those who are vegetarians or only eat Halal. Later, I learned that the huge variety of foods in Singapore was due to the amalgam of people that formed the Republic of Singapore. In this country you will see a huge number of Chinese, Indian and the neighboring Malaysian descendants (known as Malay), all of them mingling together with their cultural differences living in harmony communicating in an interesting mixture of English and their local slang known as Singlish, which will ease your communication with them.
Over the years, during each of my visits to Singapore, I have been able to enjoy its natural settings on its reserved parks, biked, jogged and walked on its infinite number of paved trails at different times of the day enjoying the known safety of the country. I have also stayed at the known Marina Bay Sands Hotel, as well as mingle with the locals during Chinese New Year, and each year I continue to be more and more surprised by the many good things I have experienced in this southeastern Asian country.
As I learned many years ago while traveling, the best way to visit a foreign country is with an open mind and with no specific expectations about anything, this way you will always be impressed and surprised. I used to think that this little country would not have anything to offer me because of its size, but I was wrong, and I would like to invite you to visit Singapore someday. I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Visitando Singapur
Durante los últimos cuatro años, he tenido el placer de visitar el pequeño país de Singapur al menos una vez al año y aunque digo “pequeño” no dejes que esta palabra te engañe, porque este país debe ser juzgado por todo excepto por su tamaño
Si nunca ha estado en Singapur, debo advertirle que una vez que llegue a su Aeropuerto Internacional (Changi International), puede llegarle a impresionar tanto como a mi las comodidades que ofrece. Si tiene curiosidad, la nueva construcción (2019 ) del complejo comercial y de entretenimiento temático Jewel Nature, que conecta con tres de sus terminales con la cascada puertas adentro más alta del mundo, el Rain Vortex, rodeado por un entorno de bosque en terrazas de seguro lo hará.
Una vez que salga del aeropuerto, si ha estado en otros países del sudeste asiático, notará cuán limpio y organizado se compara Singapur con ellos. Cuando llegué a Singapur por primera vez en 2017, me impresionó casi todo lo que mis ojos veían mientras estábamos en el automóvil camino al lugar donde nos alojaríamos. Después de dejar nuestras maletas, lo siguiente fue buscar comida. Soy una de esas personas que puede comer casi cualquier cosa y muy pocas veces mi estómago me ha dado problemas, y no estaba preocupado por este problema en Singapur y, por supuesto, tampoco debería estarlo.
Singapur ha sido reconocido por ser uno de los principales destinos para visitar en Asia desde hace ya muchos años, y aunque no es tan barato como otros países asiáticos, definitivamente vale la pena visitarlo al menos por unos días y tal vez el lugar donde debería darse el gusto y mimarse un poco. Siendo un viajero experimentado desde la edad de 8 años, aprendí a apreciar y sumergirme lo antes posible en las culturas locales, por lo tanto, en Singapur ir a comer a los lugares locales llamados Hawker Centers fue el lugar adecuado para experimentar su cultura.
Mi experiencia en este primer centro de comidas fue increíble. La variedad de comida que se sirve en estos establecimientos es muy deliciosa. En estas áreas para comer al aire libre, encontrará comida india, malaya, china y una gran variedad de alimentos que seguramente complacerá a cualquiera, incluso a los vegetarianos o que solo comen Halal, todo a precios muy buenos. Más tarde, supe que la gran variedad de alimentos en Singapur se debía a la amalgama de personas que formaron esta República. En este país verá una gran cantidad de descendientes de chinos, indios y vecinos de Malasia (conocidos como malayos), todos ellos mezclados con sus diferencias culturales que viven en armonía comunicándose en una interesante mezcla del inglés y su jerga local conocida como Singlish , lo que sin duda facilitará su comunicación con ellos.
A lo largo de los años, durante cada una de mis visitas a Singapur, he podido disfrutar de su entorno natural en sus parques reservados, andar en bicicleta, trotar y caminar por su infinito número de senderos pavimentados en diferentes momentos del día disfrutando de la seguridad conocida del país. También me he alojado en el conocido Marina Bay Sands Hotel, me he mezclado con los lugareños durante el Año Nuevo chino, y cada año sigo sorprendiéndome cada vez más por las muchas cosas buenas que he experimentado en este país del sudeste asiático.
Como aprendí hace muchos años mientras viajaba que la mejor manera de visitar un país extranjero es con una mente abierta y sin expectativas específicas sobre nada, de esta manera siempre he sido impresionado y sorprendido. Años atrás, solía pensar que este pequeño país no tendría nada que ofrecerme debido a su tamaño, pero estaba muy equivocado, y me gustaría invitarlos a visitar Singapur algún día.
