China is a huge country and living among its traffic, high pitched voices and particular smells, it can be difficult to adapt. When living in China, the list of cultural differences can be long, but isn’t that what makes us special after all? Over my long stay in China, I have learned to decompress by escaping to a special place. We all need a special place to find peace. For me, this place is called the bamboo forest of Moganshan.

From Shanghai, the beautiful escapade of Moganshan is only a one and a half-hour ride in the bullet train south to Hangzhou and another 1 hour to the retreat.

Exploring Moganshan and the small town around is a perfect day hike

In the small town of Moganshan, being able to breathe the clean mountain air, go for a morning hike and enjoy a peaceful setting all around, it is truly priceless. If you are currently living in China or plan to visit it in the future, make sure that you make a quick stop in Moganshan; you won’t regret it.

A morning hike through the bamboo forest is a must each day you stay there

We met this local lady that was digging on the mountain looking for bamboo shoots, a local delicacy that can be prepared stir-fried along with meat and rice. Simply delicious!
