Considered a must-visit town for many reasons. We’d heard many years ago about this place and how beautiful it was. We had to visit and see it with our own eyes and it did not disappointed us.
Uno: Colonial Architecture and Charm

Taxco is renowned for its well-preserved colonial architecture. You can walk on its winding cobblestone streets. You can see its whitewashed buildings with red-tiled roofs, and a picturesque central plaza (Zócalo). Its unique layout, built on steep hillsides, adds to its charm and makes it a delight to explore on foot.

This beautiful town has a rich history of silver mining and is famous for its silver jewelry and handicrafts. The Silver market only opens on Saturdays, so plan accordingly to make this a must in your travel itinerary.

The 18th-century Baroque church is an architectural masterpiece and the centerpiece of Taxco. Climbing to the top of the Cristo hill offers panoramic views of the town. You can also take a bocho taxi all the way up if hiking is not your thing.

Known and designated as a “Pueblo Mágico” (Magic Town) by the Mexican government. It recognizes its cultural and historical significance, as well as its commitment to preserving traditions. Once you enter Taxco, you will sense it. Taxco is a place which many visitors to Mexico never set foot on it. You will be glad that you were part of the magic.

Taxco offers a unique culinary experience, with local specialties like pozole (a traditional soup). You can also enjoy and an array of regional dishes influenced by its mining heritage. Walk around town in the evening to taste some of the delicious tamales sold by the locals around the plaza, fresh cheese at the mercado or a local pollos a la leña (coal broil chicken). Pick up a conversation in Spanish with the friendly locals while enjoying this simple meal. We guarantee it will make your visit a true gem that you will remember forever.
Seis: Day Trip Potential:
If you do not want to stay in Taxco, no problem! You can easily get there by bus companies that offer regular services there. Only 3 hours from Mexico City, makes it an ideal day trip or weekend getaway.

If shopping is your thing, you will love Taxco. The magic town offers not only silver, but also a huge variety of handmade crafts and gifts for all.
Ocho: The land of the bochos (WV Bugs)
If you love the classic VW Bugs like we do, as well as the VW combi van, Taxco is a must place to visit. You will see these beautiful cars almost everywhere you look. You can even take a bocho taxi, which is common in town.
