During the 2019 Chinese New Year holiday in China and the almost two weeks off from work, my girlfriend and I decided to do something a bit different; we would travel by motorcycle from the capital city of Vietnam half the country south to the city of Da Nang, about 1,000 kilometres away. This a short summary of the second leg of our journey.
On the second stretch of our journey, in order for us not stress too much and enjoy our trip, the city of Vinh located about 300 kilometres south seemed to be the perfect place to stay and rest for the night. On our journey to the city of Vinh, we had left Ninh Binh on the congested QL1A and before getting to Tanh Hoa, we had taken a west detour onto the much quieter QL47 then south on the QL15 with its good views and peaceful ride to the QL48A before finally joining again into the QL1A into Vinh. The ride had taken us a bit over one hour extra if we had taken the QL1A directly, but it had been worth it having less traffic and fresh air.
We had arrived at Vinh in the afternoon around 5:00 very tired and sweaty from the typical heat of Vietnam, but we were happy to make it safe to our destination. We had stayed at a small hotel to rest properly before continuing south. After taking a shower, we had to go out to town for dinner. We had walked around near the hotel and quickly we had settled for a local meal. Night had come fast and our bodies needed much rest after the hours of pounding on our iron horse.
We felt there was nothing for us to do in the city of Vinh, so next morning we had our breakfast, packed our bags, loaded them on the motorcycle and we were on the road; we wanted to arrive early at our next destination. Leollyne (My girlfriend and copilot) had done the research and the place in Phong Nha looked promising and we wanted to enjoy it as much as possible. Once more we had opted to take the longer but more scenic route in the interior of the country. It would be another 200 kilometres and at our speed over 5 hours.
Viajando en Vietnam en una motocicleta: de Ninh Binh a Vinh
Durante las vacaciones del Año Nuevo Chino de 2019 en China y las casi dos semanas de vacaciones, mi novia y yo decidimos hacer algo un poco diferente; viajaríamos en motocicleta desde la ciudad capital de Vietnam, la mitad del país hacia el sur, hasta la ciudad de Da Nang, a unos 1.000 kilómetros de distancia. Este es un breve resumen de la segunda etapa de nuestro viaje.
En el segundo tramo de nuestro viaje, para que no nos estresaramos demasiado y disfrutaramos de nuestro viaje, la ciudad de Vinh, ubicada a unos 300 kilómetros al sur, parecia ser el lugar perfecto para quedarnos y descansar por la noche. Camino a la ciudad de Vinh, habíamos dejado Ninh Binh por la congestionada QL1A, y antes de llegar a Tanh Hoa, tomamos un desvío al oeste hacia la mucho más tranquila QL47, luego hacia el sur en la QL15, con sus buenas vistas y un paseo tranquilo hacia QL48A antes de finalmente unirse nuevamente a la QL1A en Vinh. El viaje nos llevó un poco más de una hora adicional si hubiéramos tomado la QL1A directamente, pero valió la pena tener menos tráfico y aire fresco.
Habíamos llegado a Vinh en la tarde, alrededor de las 5:00, muy cansados y sudorosos por el calor típico de Vietnam, pero estábamos felices de haber llegado seguros a nuestro destino. Nos habíamos quedado en un pequeño hotel para poder descansar adecuadamente antes de continuar hacia el sur. Después de tomar una ducha, tuvimos que salir a cenar en el pueblo. Habíamos caminado cerca del hotel y rápidamente nos habíamos conformado con un lugar de comida local. La noche había llegado rápido y nuestros cuerpos necesitaban mucho descanso después de las varias horas sobre nuestro caballo de hierro.
Sentimos que no había nada que pudiéramos hacer en la ciudad de Vinh, así que a la mañana siguiente desayunamos, empacamos nuestras maletas, las cargamos en la motocicleta y pronto estábamos en la carretera; Queríamos llegar temprano a nuestro próximo destino. Leollyne (mi novia y copiloto) había hecho la investigación y el lugar donde nos quedaríamos en Phong Nha, un lugar que parecía prometedor y queríamos disfrutarlo lo más posible. Para llegar a nuestro destino, una vez más, optamos por tomar la ruta más larga pero más pintoresca en el interior del país. Serian otros 200 y tantos kilómetros y más de 5 horas.
